Things that annoy me. Episode 1. Crowds and Escalators

A re-occurring annoyance to me and possible the most irritating thing in my life, would have to be crowds, otherwise intelligent people seem to become mind numbingly stupid when they enter into a crowd situation. It drives me insane, people walking slowly, spreading out and getting in my way, randomly changing directions and just generally being completely unaware of everyone else around them.

What is the deal?

I hear people complaining about being late, the trains not running on time and all manner of other things, that likely wouldn’t be an issue if everyone was aware of their own personal space, the speed they walked and in general the world around them.

Some specific example come to mind here, and I will surely end up sounding like a high level whiner here but to be honest, I just have to vent.

1 – Escalators: this is the utmost annoyance in public situations for me, it is nearly always going to cause me stress. What is it with people standing on these things? What is it with people standing and blocking the whole thing. It isn’t a fucking ride people, it’s a fucking escalator. Do you honestly expect little Disney style characters to pop up on either side singing “It’s a small world” or something?

The idea of an escalator is not to allow you to rest your feet, or to make the stair walking experience simpler, it is to ESCALATE the speed, the idea is that stairs generally cause a bottle neck of people, the more people the more backed up it is going to  get if you are walking up stairs.

The solution? Put in a moving stairway so that people walking up the stairs will be moving more quickly and therefore alleviating the bottle neck.

If you are not prepared to walk up the escalator then at least stand to the side and don’t jsut stand there blocking the whole thing staring into space or talking absolute crap to your friend. Move over, let me pass or don’t fucking use the things
